Monkey Naruto Uzumaki è un ragazzo dodicenne del Villaggio di Konoha, sede dei ninja del Paese del Fuoco, che insegue il sogno di diventare Hokage, cioè ninja più forte nonché capo del Villaggio. Il giovane custodisce in sé un segreto di cui lui stesso è all' oscuro: il Quarto Hokage ha sigillato il demone della Volpe a nove code dentro il suo corpo. Da quel momento in poi, nonostante il Quarto Hokage volesse che fosse considerato come salvatore del Villaggio, Naruto fu sempre associato da tutti gli abitanti del Villaggio allo spirito demoniaco che viveva in lui e perciò crebbe isolato da tutti, senza riuscire a spiegarsi il motivo della sua emarginazione. Così, per poter attirare su di sé un po' di attenzione, iniziò a comportarsi da teppista, fingendosi sempre allegro e tentando di nascondere l'enorme sofferenza patita per la propria solitudine e per l'odio nutrito verso di lui dagli abitanti del Villaggio.
